Our Mission
Our mission is to make career development, planning, and transition easier for lawyers. Whether you are moving up, employed, downsized, graduating, or just looking for a change, we help you make career decisions, understand (and get rewarded for) your value, and position yourself to find a better fit in less time. We are committed to the highest quality writing, career advising, and client experience. All services and consultations are provided remotely, allowing us to work easily with clients around the country and the world.
Over the years, we’ve been privileged to build a top-ranked lawyer career consulting and legal résumé writing practice characterized by:
Unmatched client testimonials: Our sheer number of client testimonials is unmatched—as are their quality. Take a look at our client reviews and feedback, including a searchable database so you can find the testimonials most relevant to you.
Enduring client relationships: We are often asked to continue working with clients long after the initial project, and have developed some client partnerships that have lasted over a decade, as clients have made career changes, advanced, been elected to partnership, shifted from individual contributors to rainmakers and executives, landed their first GCs roles or public company GC roles, joined corporate and nonprofit boards, retired, or explored shifting from law practice. Our clients have referred their spouses and other family members, friends, colleagues, and others to us.
A large referral and returning client base: We have been recommended by hiring attorneys, legal search consultants, executive recruiters, résumé writers, lawyer career coaches, and clients (from CLOs and managing partners to law students) since 2006. We also partner with law firms and corporate legal departments in lawyer development, outplacement, and transitional services. Take a look at some feedback from legal and careers industry leaders.
Top rankings in Google: We don’t pay for ads. We’re highly ranked because we’ve been around a long time and because leading publications, organizations, legal recruiters, and others find value in our services and blog content.
Here’s a quick rundown of how we earned those distinctions.
Bryce Legal was founded by Shauna C. Bryce, a Harvard-trained attorney who has been in law and legal hiring for 20+ years. She practiced law in an AmLaw 100 firm, in an AmLaw 200 firm (where she was also a member of the law firm’s hiring committee), and in a regional company’s corporate legal department. She has also served as the Chief Legal Talent Officer and Chief Diversity Officer of a multinational AmLaw 100 law firm. Today, she is one of the nation’s leading experts on career strategies, services, and solutions for attorneys and law school students.
Shauna has insisted on a similar level of excellence and commitment in building an unparalleled team. Each and every one of our team of career experts has exposure in four areas we believe are invaluable to providing the best assistance possible for lawyers:
Legal hiring, candidate evaluation, interviewing, and recruiting
Résumé evaluations, résumé writing, LinkedIn profiles, and career portfolio writing
Mentoring and coaching experienced lawyers down to law students just starting their careers
Leadership roles in private or public / nonprofit sectors
A career plan and résumé that’s perfect for a veteran products liability litigator in a large New York or Los Angeles firm will not work well for a recent graduate with an LLM in Tax pursuing a career in trusts and estates in a small firm outside Denver, or for an oil and gas attorney in Houston, or for a senior corporate generalist in-house at a defense contractor near Washington, DC.
Your individual coaching, résumé, cover letters, and auxiliary documents should be targeted to your career goals. To do this, we give great thought to both your personal objectives and to the peculiarities and demands of the modern legal hiring market. We leverage our hiring-side knowledge to have one-on-one discussions with you. It’s a collaborative process that builds a platform for you to grow in your career, whatever you decide to do.
Our coaching and writing clients learn not just how to recognize and seize opportunities, but also how to create them. We work with attorneys to develop action plans enabling them to take charge of their situations:
Excel as legal team leaders or members
Prepare to make career, practice area, and geographical changes
Get ready for interviews
Address weak spots (or perceived weak spots) in their skills, experience, and résumé
Build and use networks for short-term goals (like immediate job placement) and long-term goals (like an eventual client-base, establishing oneself as a thought leader, and career opportunities)
And a whole lot more

“Hi Julie, I just wanted to give you an update following our session. I ended up doing well in those interviews (and subsequent rounds) thanks to your helpful tips. I did get some challenging questions, but was able to stay calm and used it as an opportunity to evaluate the companies and whether I would want to work for them. I’m very happy to let you know I’ve received verbal offers from both companies this week. You helped me change my mindset and attitude about interviewing and I’m so grateful for your help! And you really gave me the boost of confidence I needed to get over my nerves. Thank you so so much!!”
- In-house counsel seeking out new opportunities
“After we updated my LinkedIn profile, that's when I really saw an uptick in recruiter inquiries for GC opportunities. So thank you for that, Shauna.”
- DGC preparing for GC roles
“I have accepted a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary position at a publicly traded technology company..., so I am very happy and grateful for your work with me. It is no coincidence that my résumé got a lot of traction after our work together. So, thank you, Shauna.”
- Public company GC
“The résumé and LinkedIn profile you put together for me has generated an astonishing amount of interest, Julie. They've performed beyond my expectations. I've interviewed with Amazon, Intuit, Playstation, NASDAQ, Madison Square Garden, Adobe, Robinhood, and others. Most of them just hit me up on LinkedIn.”
- Digital products lawyer
“Hi Julie, Thank you for the productive session. The screening interview went very well and I'll be meeting with additional members of the practice in the coming days. It's great to get into the swing of things with interviews and I'm excited to see if this position is going to be a good fit for me.”
- Midlevel associate interviewing during relocation
“Thanks Julie! I want to thank you for your guidance and assistance with revamping my résumé and my approach to transitioning into my second career. Your guidance was invaluable and I am eternally grateful!”
- Second-career professional getting first associate attorney role
“Hi Shauna - Hope you are doing well. I wanted to let you know that I gave notice on Monday and in the coming months will be starting a new job in-house at a broker-dealer/investment bank. It is a great position and a step up to a Managing Director title.
The work that you did on my LinkedIn profile optimization and résumé proved to be extremely valuable. I ended up with two offers and went into final rounds at several other places. And I got a lot of unsolicited calls for interviews. Also, the creative process of talking through the résumé drafting with you was great interview preparation because it helped me to think of the best ways to present myself.”
- In-house counsel in financial sector
“Hi Julie, I wanted let you know that since we last spoke, I accepted a position at an AmLaw 100 firm! It is a position I would not have likely even applied for before we spoke. You were so very helpful with my concerns and confidence. I understand that is part of your job, but your genuineness came through and made me feel a little more at ease with my search. Thank you!”
- Midlevel associate transitioning between large firms
“Jared, I am so grateful for all of the hard work you put in to helping me with my resume and LinkedIn. More than just getting documents prepared, your process helped me hone the way in which I marketed myself in interviews and negotiations, and I am so very thankful. Also, let Shauna know the good news and how incredibly helpful her advice was in the negotiation process? After she and I spoke, I countered the firm’s initial offer and they came back with no changes to salary or bonus, just a better (partner) title. Speaking to her about how to present the counteroffer gave me the confidence and tools I needed to make that happen!”
- Partner for an international corporate law firm
“My new role is VP, Deputy General Counsel. I will lead all compliance, regulatory, and IP functions. So this is an awesome opportunity to fill holes in my resume while building and leading a larger team. I'm very VERY excited. Thank you again for all the coaching and resume writing help. Having my resume re-written gave me a leg up during interviews. Instead of focusing on my substantive experiences, I spent more interview time focused on deeper issues because the resume spoke for itself. I truly couldn't have done this without the help you provided me. You took my resume from Stone Ages to modern times. Thank you, Shauna, so much for all that you did for me! I am so grateful to have you in my corner.”
